Random/Ramblings – Peeps Edition #7

This week’s blog was prompted by the ever loquacious and downright mirthful Carol Barker.

I met Carol almost 20 years ago as a pen pal. She lives in England, and while we’ve never met in person, we are truly sister in our hearts. We went from letters exchanged by snail mail, to email, to instant messenger and now to chatting all the time on Facebook. We have shared everything in our hearts with each other. She’s a Brit and I’m a Yank but together we are a complete matched set of loonies.

We discovered we are so much alike in many, many ways. Our likes and dislikes. Our faith. Our kids and grandkids. Our rather unique sense of humor.

The biggest similarity though…is our downright humility and humbleness. We are practically saints, I tell you! We try to outdo each other in our selflessness. If one of us sees a spot on the other one’s halo that needs polishing, we immediately see that it is taken care of! If one of us loses a feather from one’s wing, the other will happily share one. We positively glow when we walk down the street. I honestly doubt that the world could handle it if we were ever to meet in person. You would probably see such a glow as to cause blindness. And of course, we would never want that to happen…we are far too nice for that!

Ah well. It’s not likely that we will meet this side of Heaven, but watch out! When we DO meet, there will be such a clamor! ♥

Random/Ramblings – Peeps Edition #6

This week’s blog is prompted by the ever entertaining and delightful AmyJean Barclay.

I’m to talk about what I see right now out of my window, and what I’d like to see.

I see there are still quite a few green leaves on the mulberry tree in the back yard. But I also see a lot of brown ones on the ground. The grass is dry and brown. A couple of the lawn chairs are still under the tree. Lia’s pool is empty and turned over by the shed. The pool toys are still piled on the work bench under the tree. The wheelbarrow by the left fence is filled with firewood.

Across the alley in back the grass is very dry. The leaves on the neighbor’s trees are turning brown. Along the right fence the neighbor’s oleanders are still very green. Very few blossoms left. Many years ago when they were in full bloom, I cut a huge bouquet of them where they dropped over on our side of the fence. I took them to the cemetery to put in the vase on my mom’s grave.

Now for what I’d like to see. Snow! Not immediately, of course. But I would just love to wake up some morning in winter and look at all the snow on the ground in the back yard. And then I’d run to the front room window and see the same. That was the first big disappointment when we moved from Kansas to California. No snow in the winter. Of course at that time we lived in southern California! When we moved “up north” to Chico, I thought for sure there would be snow at least for Christmas. Nope. And I don’t want a lot of snow. Just enough to maybe make a snowman or two.

Random/Ramblings – Peeps Edition #5

This week’s blog was prompted by the ever compelling and quintessential Wayne “Big Brain” Anderson.

For this one, I was to close my eyes for 10 seconds and then talk about the first thing I saw when I opened my eyes. I sat in the computer chair in the middle of the room, closed my eyes and spun around. When I stopped and opened my eyes, I saw the painted secretary I inherited from my Aunt Bernice.

She was an artist and she’s the one who painted the front lid. The same flowers were painted on either side as well. When I got this after Aunt Bernice died, I had it in my bedroom in my parent’s house. The lid dropped down as my desk. I kept clothes in the drawers. Books were on the shelves. One evening I was in bed reading and saw a mouse skitter across the floor and go under the secretary. I yelled for someone to get my cat Sidney. My brother brought Sid in my room, put him down in front of the secretary, and Sid squeezed halfway under and backed out with the mouse in his mouth. Good Kitty!!

When Marv and I got married, the secretary was in our bedroom. We didn’t really use the desk part anymore, and most of the shelves had cat figurines in them. When we moved to Oroville, the secretary ended up in the family room where it is now. Inside the desk part is where we keep the bills and bank statements. One drawer has a lot of my decorative craft paper. One drawer is filled with music CDs. One drawer has miscellaneous envelopes, office stuff, etc.

If/when we move, Sarah said she’d like the secretary. I’m glad that it will stay in the family.
