Treading Water but Still Afloat

This will be my ONLY blog post to mention the current Covid-19 situation. And it is from MY perspective and experience. If you don’t like it, that’s fine. But please, no more sniping or hatred. I will immediately delete any comments that are overwhelmingly negative. There is so much tragedy, so much valor and courage, so much HATRED and bitterness from all sides in the political and social arena. There’s another point that I will make, and that is in regard to my faith. I will NOT debate my faith. It’s gotten to the point where I’ve been afraid to post much that I know I will get slammed for. So…

I’ve always been an introvert, so self-isolation suits me fine. The biggest plus is that I have Marvin. We LOVE being together all by ourselves. Yes, I miss seeing our friends in person. I especially miss being able to be with Lia in person. I miss going to church. Even though my Christian faith doesn’t require an actual building, I miss being among the body of Christ in the congregation. I miss Communion.

I have very little of some of the bigger stresses a lot of people have. I don’t have school-age kids that need home help along with the online classwork. HUGE kudos to these parents!! And their kids!! And even more to the ones with very young kids that need to be amused every waking moment.

While I do have an underlying illness with my lung disease, both Marv and I take special care and so far there have been no problems. The few times I go out to shop with Marv I am VERY careful. And let’s face it, helping Marv shop is one of those essentials. Right now I don’t care what brand of anything I need, but with more than one choice, Marv gets confused… ;-)

I have to admit that I would not mind having a multimillion dollar home with pool, movie theater, etc., etc., etc. like the celebrities, but would certainly not complain that I feel like I’m in prison…BUT…

So far we’re OK financially.

I do have a comfortable home I enjoy. I have tons of books. I have my crafts. I have the Internet. I have satellite TV. I have a nice back yard to sit in when it’s not so stinkin’ hot you can’t breathe…I digress…

All in all, God has taken very good care of me the last 66 years and I expect He will continue to do so.

Soli Deo Gloria

Goodbye, Gams!!

If my legs looked like Betty Grable’s, I’d still be showing them. Also, my hips would have to look like hers.

For a very brief time in my life, I had a fairly good figure and enjoyed wearing dresses. But time, motherhood and arthritis put an end to that. I didn’t like the way I looked in dresses or skirts. I still had a few dresses for special occasions or church, but I wasn’t happy with the way I looked. After I had my first knee replacement I tried long skirts for quite a while, but the hips still insisted on being the star attraction. I got rid of the dresses and kept with the long skirts. Still hated the way I looked. A couple months ago I finally got rid of the long skirts.

I think I look OK in nice slacks, so that’s what I wear for the times I need to dress up a bit. Otherwise, it’s jeans. As far as shorts go, I got rid of those some time ago. A woman of my age should NOT go out in public in shorts. I do enjoy wearing capris in the summer. Those go past my scarred knees and I think they look OK.

So no more gams for grandma! The showing of the shins is as far as I go!

Another Mindless Meme – part the second

Where would you bury hidden treasure if you had some?
Yeah, right! Think I’m gonna tell YOU?? Then you’d be sneaking up in the middle of the night trying to find my treasure! I know you…ya dog-faced lying pony soldier!!! You son of a motherless goat!! Aaarrrrrr!

What would you name your boat if you had one?
The first name that came to mind was The Black Pearl, but that one’s probably been used already many times. And just to be quirky I’d entertain the name Titanic, but most folks would think that was in bad taste. Then I thought of one of my favorite childhood books, Scuffy the Tugboat, and call my boat Scuffy. I don’t think Marv would care for that one. So I’m going with The Drunken Squid…

What’s the dumbest way you’ve been injured?
It was at Girl Scout camp when I was about 13. The counselor was giving a stern lecture on safety when using our pocket knives, as there had been a rash of cuts amongst us. I was kind of on the sidelines using my pocket knife and whittling a stick, not paying a lot of attention. I knew all about knife safety…
As the counselor was walking away, my knife slipped and I cut my finger. *sigh* I trotted over very embarrassed to tell her I needed to go to the nurse…

What’s the best and worst purchase you’ve made recently?
Best: my Keurig. It was a few years ago December and I was shopping with friends at Costco and they had the basic Keurig with a whole bunch of coffee pods on sale. I’d been wanting one for some time, so I grabbed it. I didn’t know at the time that Marv was going to get me one for Christmas. Good thing he hadn’t already bought it…
Worst: a salad spinner. I had seen a really cute craft on Facebook using paper circles and paint and whirling them in a salad spinner. Looked so easy and beautiful. I got it and some doilies and tried it out with my paints. Total failure. Donated the spinner.

What’s something your brain tries to make you do and you have to will yourself not to do it?
Eat that second/third/fourth donut!! Or substitute cookie for donut. Stupid brain…good thing I rarely pay attention to it…

If you were given a one-minute ad slot during the Super Bowl that you couldn’t sell, what would you fill it with?
Cat videos, of course!!! Need you ask???

What would be the worst “buy one get one free” sale of all time?
Colonoscopy.
