Since
it’s Groundhog Day, I thought about posting a previous blog and seeing if
anyone noticed. But then I’d feel hurt if no one did…*sigh*

The
Haunted Lady (1942) by Mary Roberts Rinehart
I’d
never read much of her books, but had heard of her. At some point I’d gotten a
few books from the thrift store. I’m glad I did! She was a great writer. This
book is apparently part of a series that features a nurse named Hilda Adams.
She works with the police and she can be an asset in an investigation by
blending into the background. Hilda is hired to protect the rich, elderly Mrs.
Fairbanks, who thinks one member of her family is trying to kill her.

The
Great Hotel Robbery (1982) by John Minahan
Another
series of books featuring Detective Rawlings of the NYPD. He is part of the
team trying to solve the robbery at the Champs-Elysees Hotel. Very gritty and
real. It’s also fun because it’s set in the 80s and has all sorts of references
to that time period.

Tanglewood
Tales (1853) by Nathaniel Hawthorne
This
is a re-telling of 6 Greek mythology stories, geared for children. That means
it was cleaned up a LOT if you’ve ever read some of myths as originally
written! It was still a fun book and had some good illustrations, but I was
glad that I already knew the background of these stories.

Mooncop
(2016) by Tom Gauld
Fun
book!! This is a graphic (comic book) short story about a policeman in the one
city left on the moon. As time has gone on, more and more people are returning
to earth, leaving Mooncop with less and less to patrol. His record looks real
good, with no crimes being reported because there aren’t any people left to
commit them! Finally it’s just him and the lady at the donut shop (the last
business left) as the last humans there. Great illustrations!
