The Five Senses—Pro & Con—Smell

Smell – Pro

Tires – I LOVE going to a tire store and breathing deep of that fresh rubber! As far back as I can remember, I’ve loved the smell of new tires. Also gasoline. I remember once going to the gas station and I was sitting in the back seat of the station wagon with my grandpa. While Dad was filling up the car, I had my head out the window so I could smell the gasoline. My grandpa thought I was very strange…

Flowers – A no brainer, really. Especially highly scented ones like narcissus, which is my birth flower. I love the look of all flowers, but prize the ones that smell good.

Rain and fog – Almost everyone seems to love the smell of rain, but along with that, I LOVE the smell of fog. Especially on a very cold winter night. I love it almost as much as new tires.

Pine and cedar – In this case, I enjoy the smell most when it’s very hot outside. It brings me back to my youth when we would go to rural areas for vacations. We’d walk amongst the trees and even though it would be blazing hot out, the smell of the needles and bark made me happy.

Incense and candles – This can be a quirky thing, as I don’t care for all scents. I prefer mild incense and highly scented candles. There was a store at the old mall in Chico called Taz Bazaar that I loved going to because it smelled fantastic!

Smell – Con…So many to choose from, but I’ll try not to be too gross…

Any type of bodily fluid from human or animal – ‘Nuf said…

Beets – I don’t care how they’re prepared. They smell and taste like dirt to me.

Mold – Or any type of decay.

Some cheeses – Especially the moldy ones…

Car exhaust – Yuk.
