April 2019 Book Report

Up To No Good (1941) by Aaron Marc Stein

Great book that was in my mom’s library. Finally got around to reading it. The second book to feature archeologists Tim and Elsie Mae, who are partners on various digs. This one takes place in South America. They agree to help a friend on his dig that is experiencing severe setbacks that seem to be sabotage. Several murders take place before the final solution.

Uneasy Spring (1946) by Robert Molloy

He find himself drifting into an affair with a much younger woman

The Water Babies (1863) by Charles Kingsley

Kind of an oddball book. First written with a lot of sermonizing, which was removed for this edition. Young chimney sweep Tom flees his abusive master and appears to drown in a river, becoming a Water Baby.

Ghost Writer (1999) by Noreen Wald

First book in a series. Ghostwriter Jake O’Hara sees her fellow ghosts getting killed one by one. Interesting insight into what it’s like to ghost a book that someone else gets credit for. With help from her ghost support group, Jake tries to figure out who is killing them and who might be the next one to get done in.

My Name is Legion (1976) by Roger Zelazny

Three sci-fi stories about a man who escapes the international registering of all humans. Before the computer system for this goes live, the unnamed man destroys his personal info to become a man who doesn’t exist in any record. He now has to make his way outside of the rest of the world. He contracts to do highly dangerous jobs that will net him a lot of cash, since he has no other source of income. I really wish there had been more stories about this guy.

The Trouble With Tycho (1961) by Clifford Simak

Two previous missions to the Tycho region of the moon to prospect for remains go missing. Amelia is a lone wolf prospecting illegally and knows where the wreckage is. She enlists the help of another prospector, Chris Jackson, to help her for a share of the profits.
