July 2015 Book Report

A Stolen Life (2011) by Jaycee Dugard

This one was a difficult read. What was done to Jaycee is beyond comprehension. I find it hard to imagine a person so deranged. Knowing that his wife went along with it all and had the chance to release Jaycee, but didn’t, defies humanity. They will answer fully for what they did.

The Mysterious Mickey Finn (1939) by Elliot Paul

I’d never heard of this author before. Saw a blurb about the reprinting of his books and decided to take a chance on getting the first one of the series. LOVED IT!! The writing is superb. Homer Evans is idling away his time in Paris when his friend Hugo Weiss is kidnapped. Homer sets off to find him with help from some very interesting folks in the bohemian section.

Hatching Magic (2003) by Ann Downer

Very enjoyable book from the YA fantasy section. Theodora has to stay home while her father goes off on adventure. She loves fantasy and has a set of playing cards she’s collected over time. All that is missing is the special Wyvern card. Not only does she find the card, she comes across a newly hatched wyvern as well.

Honeymoon (2005) by James Patterson

I had never read Patterson before. I was given this book and was surprised how much I enjoyed his writing. Good story! You knew “who dunnit” from the beginning, but the journey of the capture was great. Agent John O’Hara has to find out how Nora Sinclair is poisoning her husbands/lovers.

Fup (1983) by Jim Dodge

Great little book! Fast read. The illustrations are good too. Tiny, (who is over 6’ tall) and his Granddaddy adopt a mallard duck they name “Fup” when she is injured. Fup becomes their faithful companion. The grandpa character is a hoot.
