I
continue to plow through my library, winnowing and/or saving. Recent reads:
Angels
and Spaceships (1953) by Fredric Brown
Neat
little book of very short sci-fi/fantasy stories. Some of the stories are only
a page or a page and a half long. A lot of humor and a few twists. Excellent
for a quick read when you don’t have a lot of time. The stories were all
written in the 40s and I find early works of the genre are very interesting.

The
Girl Who Could Not Dream (2015) by Sarah Beth Durst
This
was one of Lia’s books that she left for me to read. Sophie’s parents have a
bookshop and in the basement they have bottled dreams that they sell. They also
buy dreams from other sellers. It’s a strictly regulated thing, this business
in dreams, and what Sophie’s parents are doing can cause all sorts of troubles
if discovered. Sophie is one of the very rare people who never dream. So one
day, she steals one of the bottles in the basement and has a dream about a
monster under the bed. But Sophie isn’t afraid and makes a friend of the
monster. When she wakes up, she discovers that what she dreams can become real.
She now has a pet monster. Sophie’s parents are kidnapped and all the bottles
in the basement are stolen. Sophie, her monster and a couple of school friends
who know about her secret have to try and save her parents and recover the
stolen dreams. Great story.
