March 2016 Book Report

How to Paint a Cat (2014) by Rebecca M. Hale

The fifth book in the series. The search is on for the art murals that point to the murder of the former mayor’s intern. The ghost of the intern is haunting the interim mayor to try and point out his killer. And of course, the cats help as much as they can.

All That Glitters (2014) by Emily Thomas

Blue Hill Library mystery. A stranger claiming to be a friend of Aunt Edie shows up in town. He seems to be a nice old gentlemen, but he has a lot of tall tales about his life. Ben and his friend try to dig for gold in order to help pay medical bills for a school friend who has cancer.

Great Son (1944) by Edna Ferber

Very interesting story of a fictional family that had ruled Seattle since the pioneer days of the mid 1800s until Pearl Harbor day. Ms. Ferber did a lot of research for this book and I greatly enjoyed the historical info. I did some research of my own afterward.

How to Catch a Cat (2015) by Rebecca M. Hale

Last book in this series. I have truly enjoyed them all and would like to have at least one more to tie up ALL loose ends. Mayor Monty is getting involved in the sailing regatta to be held in SF Bay. The Knitting Needle Ninja dispatches another intern. A parallel story about the first ship to discover the entrance to the bay in the 1700s.

Appreciate Me Now and Avoid the Rush (1981) by Ashleigh Brilliant

Over the years I’ve seen his epigrams in Reader’s Digest and other magazines. Very witty epigrams along with funny pictures. Look up his website. Great stuff!

The Wizard’s Daughter (1980) by Barbara Michaels

A very enjoyable romance/mystery. I’ve always enjoyed Ms. Michaels’ writing. This book takes place when spiritualism was all the rage in Victorian times. Young Marianne has to work for her living after he father’s death leaves her penniless. She starts out singing in a “Gentleman’s Club” before she is mistaken by the Duchess as the long lost daughter of a dead medium that the Duchess loved. The Duchess thinks Marianne can channel her “father’s” spirit.
