I don’t remember when I last did this type of post. But I felt it was time.
Walter Cronkite
Growing up, my parents and grandparents watched the evening news every night. Without fail. The world would have ended if they hadn’t. So by default, it was part of my life as well. I rarely paid any attention, but always heard the “And that’s the way it was” sign off by old Walter. And I felt strangely comforted by it.
Geoffrey Holder – AKA the Uncola Man
I LOVED his voice in the 7UP commercials! His laugh sounded so rich, like molasses. He was in several movies that I saw later as I got older, but my main focus was that laugh on the commercial.
Captain Kangaroo and Mr. Green Jeans
LOVED THAT SHOW when I was little. Loved all the characters, the songs the stories. And Mr. Green Jeans (Hugh “Lumpy” Brannum) showed us all those cute animals. He also played the banjo. I was so glad that there was a more modern take on the show when my kids were little. Some of the old songs were still sung and the favorite characters were still there.
Magic Slate
And I did think that was a truly magic thing. You drew on it, then lifted the screen and your drawing DISAPPEARED!!! WOW!!! My brother and I always had at least two or more of these things around.
Bubble Gum Comics
These were so much fun. I really, really wish I had kept all the comics.
Folding Ruler
My dad had a bunch of these at various places around the house, yard, shop, etc. I thought they were just amazing and I loved unfolding them and then folding them back up. You could also make various shapes with them. Such innocent fun.
