Winter Poem

Reaching dead fingers
     to the sky in supplication
Winter trees bemoan
     their nakedness.

“Send us snow,
     to clothe us in white!
Send us ice,
     to sparkle in the light!”

The evergreens laugh
     and hug their needles
          ever closer.
