Gimme Five Friday

I can’t remember the last time I did one of these. So here ya go.

5 Things I love To Wear

Jeans…
ALL THE TIME!! Once the school dress code changed when I was in high school, I rarely wore a dress/skirt or slacks again. Except to church or going out for a nice dinner. When I find a pair of jeans that fit well, I always try to buy at least one other pair just like it. Once I was lucky enough to get 3 pairs of the same jeans at one time. Sure makes getting dressed in the morning a breeze. In the summer, I switch to capri pants. No shorts anymore. I’m too old to be able to do that with any conscience.

T-shirts…
Again, pretty much all the time. I like my t-shirts to say something. Most are cat-themed, of course. Others have funny sayings, some are Christian. I have several I have “earned” by donating blood. When they get worn out I set them aside for a future quilt I want Sarah to make for me.

Tennis shoes…
By whatever name you call them. In summer I go barefoot in the house. Outside, I wear sandals or slides. No flip-flops. Hate that piece between my toes. With shoes, I also like to wear funny socks.

Flannel Pajamas…
There is nothing so comforting in the winter than to snuggle under flannel covers wearing flannel jammies. When it starts to get warm enough, all I need are the jammies and the covers end up at the bottom of the bed. Then when it gets too warm for the jammies, we switch to the linen sheets.

Earrings…
OMG, I love my earrings!! I have tons of them. A lot of them cats, of course. Also weird ones. A lot of Christmas ones. Everyday ones. I have several pairs I made with cute buttons that I glued backings onto. I may look like a sedate old grandma, but make sure you see what kind of earrings I’m wearing to get a glimpse of my mood…

Gimme 5 - July 2013

This one ties in a bit with my last “Gimme” post, which had to do with travel. This one is:

5 Places in the world where I’d like to live for a year. And again, they’re in no particular order.

1. England. I’d like to experience a year of seasons in an area where I could take weekend trips to Wales as well. There is SO much history in both countries, and to do any justice at all would take at least a year, I’d think. And I don’t mean living in a large city. I would love to explore the rural areas, country lanes, things like that. I’d love to have a sweet cottage with a small garden. Of course, what comes to mind is the Agatha Christie type place, which no longer exists for the most part.

2. Australia. No big cities here, either. I want to see the outback. Visit Uluru. Go to a rainforest. Experience the rainy season. Visit a sheep station.

3. Alaska. A cabin in the pines. Maybe near a lake. Even though I’m not fond of fish, I’d be willing to learn to cook and eat it when it’s fresh from the water.

4. A houseboat in Seattle. Those little communities look so inviting. Maybe split my time between there and a cabin down the coast in Eureka, close to the redwoods and the ocean.

5. Traveling the US in an RV. One of the really fancy ones with a top deck and a slide out side to give lots of room. And the way Marv would want to do this is to fly into the area we want to explore, rent an RV, and when we’re finished exploring, fly into the next area. That way, you could visit every state and spend a week in the area you want to visit the most. And since I’d have already lived in Alaska, I could spend TWO weeks in Hawaii!

Gimme 5 June 2013

I can’t even BEGIN to remember the last time I did one of these. I was trolling through my files, looking for something to write about today, and came across this section. The one I’ve chosen is:

5 Things you’d do if money were no object. The general answer is “travel”, but the specifics are as follows, in no particular order…

1. Visit my brother in Indiana. Marv and I went there a few years ago and stayed for almost a week. That’s just not enough time to really explore that beautiful state. And I LOVE LOVE LOVE spending time with my bro and his family.

2. Visit my penpal in England. Carol and I started as penpals almost 14 years ago, and graduated to email, Instant Messenger and now chatting on Facebook. She and I are so alike in our thoughts and heart and have many similar family circumstances. And at heart I am such an Anglophile! Always have been. While in England, I would then stop by and see my newly-found friend Jane. We met on Facebook and I think we would have a pretty good time together in person.

3. Visit my erstwhile penpal in Australia. Lynette and I also started as penpals 13 years ago and graduated to email. Then life stepped in, things changed for both of us, and I’m sad to say that we are now only in each other’s news streams on Facebook. I would still like to meet her in person. And Australia is a fascinating country.

4. Visit my penpal in Arizona. Harriette has been my penpal as long as Lynette has. We have shared many sorrows of the heart together. We mainly communicate by email and Facebook. We don’t talk a lot to each other, but we both know that we are in each others thoughts and prayers continually.

5. Visit my “new” friend in Germany. Unlike my penpals, who are all around my age, Svenja is very young; the same age as Sarah. I met her a couple of years ago through another young woman I’d connected with on Facebook. Sadly, the circumstances weren’t the best; Svenja contacted me when the other woman, Valerie (her cousin) fell ill and eventually died. Since then, Svenja and I have kept up contact as much as a 9 hour time difference allows. She is fully fluent in English, so I know I would be able to have a good time in Germany with her as my guide and interpreter.

As I look back over these 5 visits, I find that I actually DID put them in a kind of order. From longest association to newest. Didn’t even try…
And of course, any trip wouldn’t be to only VISIT….
I MUST SHOP ALSO!

So that’s a chunk of change indeed.
Wardrobe (you didn’t expect me to wear THESE old clothes, did you?)
Plane fare (FIRST CLASS! LEG ROOM! FREE HEADPHONES FOR THE MOVIE!)
Shopping money…’nuf said…
Shipping money (can’t carry ALL of it back in my luggage!)
I know I could bunk down at my brother’s place, but for the rest: FANCY HOTEL! Toy drinks in the mini bar! Room service!! MINTS ON THE PILLOWS, FOR GOODNESS SAKE!!
Sounds fun, eh? Wanna join me?

Gimme 5 for Feb (part 2)

Wow! Two of these in a row!

5 favorites for each color

I’m only going to do the traditional 8 that you get in your box of crayons in kindergarten. If they even give those out anymore. I loved having my own personal box of crayons that I didn’t have to share with anyone!

For some reason, when I got those crayons at the age of 5, I put them in this order: Red, Yellow, Orange, Blue, Black, Green, Purple, Brown. And every year after that, whenever I got a new box of 8, whether it was in school or at home, the first thing I would do is put the crayons in that order. Later on, when I’d get the larger boxes of crayons, I would still rearrange them in those color groups in that order.

Red: tulips, Valentines, wax candy lips, one of the Christmas colors, rubies

Yellow: sunshine, butterflies, lemons, daffodils, Pikachu!

Orange: my favorite fruit-orange, golden poppies, cream-cicles, Monarch butterflies, goldfish

Blue: my favorite color of all time! It can be just about anything. Hydrangeas, the sky, the ocean, blue turquoise, the Blue Man Group

Black: ebony wood, star sapphires, licorice, cats, black pearls (not Jack Sparrow’s ship)

Green: grass, jade, frogs, olives (with pimento, thank you), bamboo

Purple: grapes, violets, Manischewitz wine, amethysts, wisteria

Brown: wood, earth, acorns, pine cones, CHOCOLATE!
