More questions from the Five

A lot of the questions they get apply more to someone in the media. But sometimes they get ones I can answer…

What TV show from your past would you want to be rebooted?

That’s a tough one, since my past is REALLY in the past. I’m thinking of childhood, and that was a LONG time ago. A lot of the programs I enjoyed just would not be PC enough for today.

~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ ~*~

Mighty Mouse

Obviously, too violent. Although it wasn’t the violence against the filthy mice that angered me. It was Mighty Mouse pounding the stuffings out of the cat! Yes, the cat was rather mean, but that was because he was fighting the filthy mice! NO ONE wants mice in their house! It’s better to have a cat. But I still watched the show, hoping that at least ONCE the cat would win…

Dennis the Menace

Another one that can’t take place in today’s world. Letting your child go out alone and ramble around the neighborhood? Nope. And Mr. Wilson would probably take out a restraining order against that juvenile hellion for all the trouble he causes that old man. And stay off his lawn!

Mr. Ed

Obviously, Wilbur has been smoking some of the “weeds” in his garden. No one hears Mr. Ed talking. Only Wilbur. And anytime something goes wrong, who gets blamed? The horse! (Of course) At some point, Carol probably got fed up with Wilbur’s heavy weed use and divorced him, leaving him to live in the barn with Ed.

My Favorite Martian

They MIGHT be able to reboot this in an entirely different direction. Since Martin never did get his space ship fixed and went home, he could have finally been caught by the authorities and shipped off to Area 51. There, the show takes a serious turn and is no longer a sit-com. “Nephew” Tim gets shot trying to defend Martin from the Feds and is no longer in the story. The scientists have a field day with Martin, running all sorts of tests and learning about his various abilities. Elon Musk gets involved since he’s the only one with enough money to actually be able to fix Martin’s spaceship and take a journey to Mars. All of this is hush-hush, of course. THEN…PLOT TWIST! It turns out that Martin had a little fling with their erstwhile landlady Mrs. Brown…remember her? She got pregnant and had a little hybrid human/martian baby! The scientists go absolutely BONKERS and go after Mrs. Brown and her baby, and just as the feds pull up to her house…THE SERIES IS CANCELED WITH NO RESOLUTION!! Fans storm the studio and burn it down to the ground. The fans build a website with fanfiction to continue the story…

Possible cast:

Tim O’Hara – Benedict Cumberbatch (cameo role)

Martin – Sam Elliott (with special appearance by his mustache)

Mrs. Brown – Janelle Monaé (hums the theme song, but in a minor key)

The scientists – various members of the Liverpool Football Club

The feds – various members of the Toronto Maple Leafs

Lassie

Finally! A show that can be rebooted with no changes necessary! After all, Lassie WAS the first trans female collie on television…

And Velma Says “Jinkies”

And everyone knows that quote is from Scooby Doo.

I think this is simply ADORABLE! I would have loved this when I was first married. This would be ideal in a dorm room. You can get them in different colors from Amazon for $80.

This is definitely different. I like the idea of giving yourself a tiny bit of an outdoor space to sit when the weather is nice and have your coffee or an evening drink. I would want a plexiglass barrier for the outside part so if you drop your cup it doesn’t go down to the street and surprise someone.

I LOVE THIS!! It looks cold, yes, but I can imagine it feeling so cool and soothing in the summer when it’s 110° outside. I don’t know what the background mural is made of or how it was made, but I love it.

I would REALLY like to know more about this structure. What does the front look like? Is that a stained glass window? How about the other two round windows? And what are those caged rocks all about?

Now, that is some crazy brickwork. I love it. It has some weird little spaces to put a knickknack or two on, and the bench seat at the side is wonderful. It would be impossible to keep it clean unless you take a duster to it every day. But it sure looks neat.

Like Riding a Bike

My experience was nothing like Calvin’s. His bike was vindictive, mine was merely passive/aggressive. My parents decided that it was time my brother and I graduated to real bikes. I was about 11, my brother was about 7. Neither of us had any experience with bikes before. His had training wheels, mine didn’t. Albert grasped the concept quickly and was riding like a pro. I was just told to go ride my bike. No instruction. I asked if I could have training wheels until I became better acquainted with things, but was told I was too old for that.

So I fell down a lot. Had zero interest in conquering this new skill, but was compelled to continue because “We got you a bike. Now use it.”

My friend Debbie tried to help. I would get on the bike and stand in place until she was ready. Then as I lifted my feel to the pedals, she would push from behind and off I would go. Off, as in off the bike and onto the ground. This was a rural neighborhood with no sidewalks. Just a bumpy street lined with stickers and thistles along the sides. Many times I ended up wobbling along for a few feet and then right into the stickers.

I gradually mastered the art of staying upright most of the time, but never felt confident. If I could just go in a straight line I was OK. Making turns was challenging. I never went anywhere in public where I would actually deal with any kind of traffic.

By the way, this was around 1965. No gears. No breaks. If you wanted to stop, you’d back pedal. But there was one thing that I did get right and did a magnificent job at:

I HAD PLAYING CARDS CLOTHESPINNED TO THE SPOKES!!!
