Gimme Five Friday

I can’t remember the last time I did one of these. So here ya go.

5 Things I love To Wear

Jeans…
ALL THE TIME!! Once the school dress code changed when I was in high school, I rarely wore a dress/skirt or slacks again. Except to church or going out for a nice dinner. When I find a pair of jeans that fit well, I always try to buy at least one other pair just like it. Once I was lucky enough to get 3 pairs of the same jeans at one time. Sure makes getting dressed in the morning a breeze. In the summer, I switch to capri pants. No shorts anymore. I’m too old to be able to do that with any conscience.

T-shirts…
Again, pretty much all the time. I like my t-shirts to say something. Most are cat-themed, of course. Others have funny sayings, some are Christian. I have several I have “earned” by donating blood. When they get worn out I set them aside for a future quilt I want Sarah to make for me.

Tennis shoes…
By whatever name you call them. In summer I go barefoot in the house. Outside, I wear sandals or slides. No flip-flops. Hate that piece between my toes. With shoes, I also like to wear funny socks.

Flannel Pajamas…
There is nothing so comforting in the winter than to snuggle under flannel covers wearing flannel jammies. When it starts to get warm enough, all I need are the jammies and the covers end up at the bottom of the bed. Then when it gets too warm for the jammies, we switch to the linen sheets.

Earrings…
OMG, I love my earrings!! I have tons of them. A lot of them cats, of course. Also weird ones. A lot of Christmas ones. Everyday ones. I have several pairs I made with cute buttons that I glued backings onto. I may look like a sedate old grandma, but make sure you see what kind of earrings I’m wearing to get a glimpse of my mood…

Strong Opinions

These are things I feel very strongly about. All opinions are mine, not influenced by someone else. I will not debate. Take ‘em or leave ‘em. No snarking, please. And KEEP A SENSE OF HUMOR FOR GOODNESS SAKE! It’s all in fun…

Ketchup is for hamburgers and French fries. NO MUSTARD! That is wrong! The only other thing allowable on a hamburger is dill pickle and lettuce. And a slice of cheese. And bacon. That’s it. MAYBE BBQ sauce…depends…

Mustard is for hotdogs, NOT KETCHUP! That is wrong! The only other thing allowable on a hotdog is chili and/or cheese. But not if mustard is already on it. That would be wrong. Also good is dill relish, but not with chili or cheese. That would be wrong.

NO MAYO ON ANYTHING! Mayonnaise is of the devil.

If you want a really cold beer, it’s perfectly acceptable to put ice in your glass. I don’t care what you think! I like REALLY cold beer! Having a freezer mug is fine for the first beer, but then it’s not cold enough for the second beer. So you put ice in it! Simple as that. The same thing goes for wine, too. And when you have beer or wine in a freezer mug you get a nice slushy at the bottom…

PINEAPPLE IS GOOD ON PIZZA!!! Sorry for shouting, but I LOVE pineapple on pepperoni pizza. If it’s not on the pizza, I am happy with it on the side in a little dish. But no comments!!

Marshmallow Peeps are wonderful! And as good as they are all by themselves, they are SO MUCH BETTER when heated up in the microwave. SO GOOD!!

Now, this next statement might ruffle some feathers, but I have to say what’s in my heart:
RAP IS NOT MUSIC…PERIOD!!

And lastly, for the record, their half-time show may have sucked (and I admit it did, big time) but I think Maroon 5 is a GREAT band and I LOVE THEM!!

So there ya go...

March 2019 Book Report

Go Set a Watchman (2015, written in 1957) by Harper Lee

This was written before To Kill a Mockingbird, and takes place after Scout is a grown woman and goes home for a visit. There are flashbacks to when she was a child, and reference is made to the famous trial. Good book, but I found it pretty depressing.

Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore (2012) by Robin Sloan

Clay drifts into a job for the night shift at the bookstore and discovers some very odd patrons that frequent it. Very few books are purchased. They are rather checked out by these patrons and then brought back. Clay begins to see a pattern and searches for just what it is they are looking for. I learned a great Latin phrase: Festina Lente – Make Haste Slowly.

Hidden Place (1986) by Robert Charles Wilson

Good little sci-fi book. In a small Midwest Depression town, aliens Anna and Bone have traveled from another dimension and are separated. Bone has little memory of who he is and what his purpose is. Anna doesn’t know how to reunite with him and sickens. Humans Travis and Nancy know there is something odd about Anna and that she needs help.

Mister Posterior and the Genius Child (2002) by Emily Jenkins

Brutal little book about just how crappy grade school can be and how vicious other children are. Told from the view of the adult Vanessa looking back. Well written. I’m so glad those years are far behind me.

The Infinite Moment (1961) by John Wyndham

I’m a big fan of Wyndham. These are short stories about skewed time. There are no rules when it comes to mucking about with time, so some of the stories are better than others. All were enjoyable.

Halfpenny Linda (1963) by Jean Nielsen

A rather dated YA book that I got years ago and loved. This was a final re-read before donating it. Linda messes up in her school in America and goes to her mother’s school in London. She stays with her aunt, who is her mother’s twin. Aside from the dated stuff, an enjoyable book about how brash Americans can be amongst the more reticent Brits.
